The early bird gets the worm

The early bird gets the worm

I’ve always been an early riser, I can’t help it…I’m on fire in the mornings.  The downside is that there are so many movies I’ve never seen the end of, cause I just pass out on the couch around 9.30 at night!  I’d been noticing the beautiful light at Western Springs early in the morning, so the other weekend I grabbed the child who is least resistant to being photographed by me, we got rugged up in jackets and gumboots and went exploring.

Before the haircut

Before the haircut

We’ve been trying to make this family photo shoot happen for AGES…we’ve been waylaid by weather, illness and general busy-ness!!  But here’s the thing, Blair wasn’t allowed to get Tyler’s hair cut until we’d taken the photos…so maybe Alexia was procrastinating just a little tiny wee bit on purpose? 😉  So here we have Tyler’s gorgeous curls preserved forever for his Mum…and some fun shots of one of the most generous, lovely families you would ever have the pleasure to meet.

Thanks for choosing me to do your photography guys, I had a blast!

For Gaga

For Gaga

Fun photo shoot the other weekend with my good friends Natalie and Nick!  These guys are getting married next summer and I can. not. wait!  But backing up just a little bit…these photos are for ‘Gaga’ (Nat’s Mum), and even though little Beth did not want to keep still for more than .5 of a second we got some cute shots!!  Lila (one of my daughters best friends) kept me in stitches as always…future comedienne/actress I’m sure 🙂

Enjoy x

p.s – you might recognise Natalie and Lila from the cupcake movie!

My photography journey

My photography journey

I just had the most amazing life-changing 5 days in Byron Bay, Australia.  I won a seat to a photography workshop with the incredible Yan Palmer of YANphotography and I came back so inspired, exhausted, happy, fullfilled and completely mind-blown.  I laughed and cried and made the best new friendships.  I will never forget the sunrise swim and the dance lesson with the Byron Bay dancing man!!

If you haven’t checked out Yan’s work you must go and see.  You can disappear down the rabbit hole here.  She’s one talented lady who just gives and gives and if you ever have the chance to get in on some of that action don’t pass it up!!  I feel like winning this seat was meant to be (see my competition entry here) and it confirms for me that I’m on the right path.  Starting this business with three little kids, when I was the busiest I’ve ever been in my whole life was so crazy, and just so typical of me!!  I have an idea and I’m off with a hiss and a roar…which doesn’t always end well (just ask my hubby!).  But this time closing my eyes and jumping headfirst into my dreams really paid off.  So thank you Yan, for believing in me, for teaching me, and for encouraging me.  I’m so grateful.

Here are some of the shots I got during the workshop, I hope you enjoy! x

Kirstin and Andrew

Kirstin and Andrew

I love shooting people in their homes, it just seems so much more real to see people interacting in their own space.  This was a fun shoot, Jack and Lukas were great fun to hang with and the sun played ball when it decided to come out at just the right time!

Billie

Billie is the most awesome little girl…she’s got energy, sass, lots of words, and amazing climbing skills!  I had heaps of fun shooting with these guys in their amazing little barn house in the bush; the light was amazing!
